About Jill’s Fundraising Journey

What is Jill’s Fundraising Journey?
Jill’s Fundraising Journey (JFJ) is a small registered charity that raises awareness of cancer and provides short respite breaks at Jill’s Place, our dedicated holiday home for families affected by a current cancer diagnosis.

Is Jill’s Fundraising Journey a registered charity?
Yes. Jill’s Fundraising Journey is a registered charity in England and Wales (Charity No. 1160327).

Who runs the charity?
JFJ is run entirely by volunteer trustees. No trustees receive payment or financial benefit from the charity.

Where is Jill’s Fundraising Journey based?
Our registered address is in Farnborough, Hampshire.

Jill’s Place is located at Hoburne Naish Holiday Park in New Milton, Hampshire.

We support families from across the UK.

How is the charity funded?
We rely entirely on:

  • donations

  • fundraising events

  • sponsored challenges

  • community support

  • small grants where available

We do not receive regular government funding.

Where does the money go?
All funds raised support the running of Jill’s Fundraising Journey and Jill’s Place, including:

  • site fees

  • utilities

  • insurance

  • maintenance and repairs

  • cleaning between stays

  • replacement furnishings and equipment

  • administration and awareness work

No money is paid to trustees or volunteers.

How many holiday homes does the charity operate?
We currently operate one holiday home, which means the number of stays we can offer each year is limited.

Because demand is high, we aim to allocate holidays as fairly as possible across applicants.

How can I support Jill’s Fundraising Journey?
You can help by:

  • making a donation

  • organising a sponsored event

  • volunteering at fundraising activities

  • hosting your own fundraiser

  • sharing our work on social media

Every contribution helps us continue supporting families affected by cancer 💛

Eligibility for Charity Holidays

Who can apply for a free holiday?
Applications are open to individuals with a current cancer diagnosis.

Supporting documentation confirming diagnosis may be requested as part of the eligibility assessment process.

Will we need to provide medical evidence?

Yes. Applicants may be asked to provide recent documentation confirming diagnosis as part of the eligibility process.

Can people in remission apply?
No. Unfortunately, individuals in remission are not eligible for a charity holiday.

Due to limited availability as a small charity with only one holiday home, we must prioritise families with a current diagnosis, although we wish we could help everyone who applies.

However, families in remission are welcome to consider our competitively priced paid holidays.

Can families who have lost someone to cancer apply?
Sadly, no. Charity holidays are limited to those with a current cancer diagnosis.

Because availability is extremely limited, we must apply our eligibility criteria consistently, although we truly understand how difficult bereavement can be and wish we could support everyone affected by cancer.

Can families affected by other illnesses or disabilities apply?
At present, charity holidays are limited to families affected by a current cancer diagnosis.

As a small charity operating one holiday home, we unfortunately cannot extend eligibility beyond this group.

Can carers attend?
Yes. Carers are welcome as part of the group, within the maximum party size of six.

Can friends or extended family attend?
Yes. Guests may bring family members, friends, or carers, within the maximum party size of six.

Applying for a Charity Holiday

Does applying guarantee a holiday?
No. Submitting an application does not guarantee a stay.

Availability depends on:

  • number of applicants

  • funding

  • seasonal availability

  • programme capacity

Is allocation first-come, first-served?
In most cases, yes.

However, priority is normally given to families who have not previously stayed at Jill’s Place, particularly when demand is high.

Is there a waiting list?
Yes, when demand exceeds availability, applicants may be placed on a waiting list.

All families on the waiting list are sent newly released dates at the same time. Stays are then allocated based on responses received.

Being on the waiting list does not guarantee a stay.

How are dates released?
We keep approximately three months of dates open for booking at any given time.

New dates are released each month as earlier availability passes.

This does not mean all dates within those months remain available.

Can we choose our holiday dates?
You will be asked to select several preferred options from the dates currently available.

Dates are not secured until confirmed by us, as multiple families may request the same break.

Can someone apply on behalf of a family member with cancer?

Yes. Applications can be submitted by a family member, friend, or carer where appropriate.

Can we apply again if we have already had a holiday?
Possibly, previous guests may be considered again where:

  • at least 12 months have passed since their previous stay

  • eligibility criteria are still met

  • availability allows after first-time applicants have been considered

During periods of high demand, repeat applications may be paused to ensure fair access for new families.

Choosing Dates

How are dates released?
We keep approximately three months of dates open for booking at any given time, and new dates are released each month as the booking window moves forward.

This does not mean that all dates within those three months are available. Some may already be booked when the availability list is shared.

When new dates are released, they are offered to approved applicants at the same time, and bookings are usually confirmed in the order responses are received.

School holiday dates are particularly popular and often book very quickly. If you are able to travel outside school holidays, this may increase the chances of securing a stay.

Does selecting dates secure a booking?
No. Dates are confirmed only after we issue booking confirmation and receive the required deposit.

We recommend selecting multiple options to improve the chance of securing a stay.

Can we join a waiting list if no dates suit us?
Yes. However, joining the waiting list does not guarantee that suitable dates will become available.

Are school holiday stays available?
Yes, but they are extremely popular and book quickly. If possible, travelling outside school holidays increases the chance of securing a stay.

We can provide supporting letters for schools where appropriate.

Length and Timing of Stays

How long are charity stays?
Most stays are either:

  • Monday to Friday
    or

  • Friday to Monday

Occasionally dates vary slightly around bank holidays or seasonal changes.

Deposits and Booking Confirmation

Is there a deposit?
Yes. A £100 refundable Security & Booking Deposit is required to confirm bookings.

Why is a deposit required?

A £100 refundable Security & Booking Deposit is required to confirm your stay.

This helps ensure that booked charity holidays are used and not left empty, as demand for stays is very high and unused breaks cannot always be reallocated at short notice.

The deposit also covers situations such as damage, additional cleaning, missing keys, or breaches of house rules during the stay.

Provided the accommodation is left in good condition and booking conditions are met, the deposit is refunded after your holiday.

Requiring a deposit helps us make sure as many families as possible can benefit from the limited number of charity holidays available each year.

When is the deposit returned?
The deposit is normally refunded after the stay, provided the accommodation is left in good condition and booking conditions are met.

Insurance and Travel

Do we need travel insurance?
Yes. Guests are responsible for arranging their own travel and medical insurance where required.

Do we need medical permission to travel?
If advised by your healthcare team, you should obtain permission before travelling.
