What We Do

Choose, Check, Change.

Jill’s Fundraising Journey is a small registered charity run in memory of Jill Goodrum by two of her children, Lyndsey and Jemma. Based in Farnborough, Hampshire, we’ve been running since October 2014 and have two main aims – raising awareness of all types of cancer and early diagnosis, and providing free short breaks for families affected by a cancer diagnosis.

Raise Awareness

Raising awareness is a big part of our mission, inspired by the work of our namesake Jill. When Jill was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, she was told that if it had been found sooner, the outlook would have been very different for her. Sadly her story is not unique, and hundreds of people are taken too soon from their families because of a late diagnosis.

We want this to change. Our team and amazing groups of volunteers are constantly looking to spread awareness of cancer and the importance of regular self-checks and tests for early detection, using our website, Facebook page and other social media to amplify our message. We have also created two dedicated information hubs on our website to give people easy access to cancer resources and support, and our blog is regularly updated with advice and information so that no one has to go through that awful journey alone. We are always looking for new ways to spread awareness of self-checking and early detection, so if you could help us we would love to hear from you!

Free Holidays For Cancer Sufferers

The other side of our charity work is working directly with families who are struggling with a cancer diagnosis. Following Jill’s last wishes, we purchased a holiday home in New Milton, which is a beautiful 6-berth caravan just one minute from the beach. We take care of the maintenance and running costs of the property and pay for holiday park guest passes, so that those who are battling cancer and their families can take short breaks and spend some quality time together, free of charge.

To do this we need funds, and so we undertake regular fundraising activities to generate the money we need to keep the holiday home running and available for free short breaks. Some of our fundraising activities include:

  • Bag packs at local supermarkets

  • Sponsored events – like bungee jumps, fire walks and tough mudders

  • Bucket collections

  • Local green token and penny drop schemes

  • Selling promotional items like badges, keyrings and hair clips

  • Holding events like galas, family fun days and graft fairs

  • Raising direct donations and corporate sponsorships

All money raised by Jill’s Fundraising Journey goes straight back into providing awareness and holidays for families affected by a cancer diagnosis. Our trustees are volunteers and are not paid, so all funds raised are used to run the charity (including event set up, admin costs and marketing), and on the maintenance of our holiday home.
